Freedom...

This is my free post about anything within the scope of class. Hence the title.

(Sidenote: I got opening day tickets to see the Red Sox and Rangers. I'm excited.)

Anyway, I've really enjoyed the discussions we've had on ethics, but I've wondered how they fit into the context of a science class. Now I understand. The main question of science used to be "What can we do?" or "How can we expand our human capabilities?" Now the question has become "What should we do?" or "Is this right?" It's taken the major issues of science from an objective to a subjective area, which really has to scare scientists to death. Now the questions scientists ask are more ethical than factual, although they still ask a lot of the latter type.

I am looking forward to discussing some of the major issues in science today. While some still have an element of "can we?" most are issues more because of their "should we?" aspects. The discussion can and should be interesting.

Post on ethics issues to come...
